Sandy Calhoun is a Consulting Counsel at Taylor & Patchen. Sandy graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a B.A. He received a J.D. from The George Washington University School of Law.

Born in China, Sandy’s professional career has included nearly every aspect of a business law practice as it relates to the Pacific Rim, with particular emphasis on Japan, China, and the Philippines. He has advised on bank and corporate mergers and acquisitions, cross-border venture capital start-ups, the negotiation of joint venture and technology exchange agreements, and transnational litigation. He is also the author of a number of publications pertaining to business operations in Japan and Korea.

He has been a lecturer on international business transactions at the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, an adjunct professor of financial services regulatory law at the University of San Francisco School of Law, and a visiting lecturer at the Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade. Sandy also is a Commissioner and former Chairman of the Asian Art Commission, Founding Chairman of the board of Give2Asia, Trustee Emeritus of The Asia Foundation, Chairman Emeritus of the Japan Society of Northern California, Chairman Emeritus of the San Francisco-Osaka Sister City Committee, and a member of the San Francisco-Shanghai Sister City Committee.

Sandy is a member of the State Bar of California, the New York State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. He has also been licensed to practice law in Japan as a “junkaiin.”

Prior to embarking on his professional career, Sandy served in the United States Army in both World War II and the Korean War as an infantry intelligence officer.
